Годзілла's latest official artwork gives the King of the Monsters one of his most unforgettable looks yet, reimagining the iconic kaiju through the lens of one of horror's most legendary films.

Спooky season may still be several months away, but as anyone in the U.S. knows, Halloween hype starts well before autumn arrives, and the world of comics is no exception. IDW Publishing recently announced The Horror of Godzilla, a new four-part horror-centric series starring the King of the Monsters. To fully embrace the spirit of the genre, the debut issue will feature a variant cover paying tribute to John Carpenter's Halloween (1978), one of the most legendary horror films of all time.

TMNT's Horror Era Officially Begins With First Look at Raphael's Darkest Design Yet

The TMNT are preparing to try their hand at horror as the franchise releases a brand-new official image of Raphael going full zombie mode.

The tribute comes in the form of a movie homage variant cover by Pablo Tunica, which reimagines one of horror's most iconic posters with the King of the Monsters. Tunica recreates the minimalist design of the original Halloween poster, replacing the knife-wielding jack-o'-lantern with Godzilla. The result is an orange-hued redesign of the iconic kaiju, complete with a knife, making it one of the character's most unique homages and unique designs to date.

Godzilla Gets Halloween-Inspired Makeover in Epic Michael Myers Tribute

Those familiar with the original Halloween poster will also recognize its iconic tagline: “The Night He Came Home!” Tunica cleverly reworks the phrase for his Godzilla variant cover, retaining the same bold white lettering but changing it to “The Night It Arrived,” making the tagline a perfect fit for the King of the Monsters.

While the orange color palette makes this a standout Godzilla design, the inclusion of Michael Myers' signature kitchen knife does as well. Godzilla fans know the kaiju is essentially a walking weapon, possessing Atomic Breath that allows him to fire a concentrated beam of radioactive energy from his mouth. As a result, the King of the Monsters rarely needs a physical weapon because he IS the weapon.

King of the Monsters — or trampled underfoot?

↻ RISE AGAIN

That said, this isn't the first time Godzilla has wielded a weapon. Although he typically relies on his atomic breath, there have been several instances of the kaiju using makeshift weapons, axes, and even, most notably, a samurai sword in Godzilla: Monster Warrior Godzilla. However, this may be the first time Godzilla has ever been depicted wielding something as ordinary as a kitchen knife. Fans should note, though, that the knife will likely remain exclusive to Tunica's artwork rather than appearing in the story itself.
